Vote for the School Budget

Taxes will go down unless you live in Knowlton. Theirs will go up because the amount of students from Knowlton increased a lot.

So if we vote for the school budget our taxes will???????

What happens if we vote for the new furnace and not the whole budget? Do we lose the state aid without voting for the total budget?

If there are a lot more kids from Knowlton who are going to be using the schools how much more of a share will Knowlton be charged compared to Blairstown.....

With all the budget wows why are some of people still considering a new park in Blairstown that will cost several million dollars? How will the park better our community? I'm all for recreation but in times like these I think an EXTRA park is a frivolous expense. Would the town not benefit if there were more parking spaces near Main Street so residents could park and shop? Could we use that money to cut some of our operating expenses in town so not to raise taxes again in the near future?

Quote "So if we vote for the school budget our taxes will???????" Depends on what town you are in.
Blairstown averages 12 dollar decrease on an home assessed at $374000 Minimal but down
Frelinghuysen averages 117 dollar decrease on an home assessed at $314500
Hardwick averages 8 dollar decrease on an home assessed at $246000 Minimal but down
Knowlton averages 71 dollar INCREASE on an home assessed at $204000 Big increase but due to increased enrollment from Knowlton.

2 Separate question - each standing on its own. We do NOT lose the state aid if budget loses and question passes. My question why vote NO unless you are from Knowlton, but even from Knowlton it is not BOE's fault you sent more students.

Last question in your first comment is above in this post.

Will answer next question in another post.

First of if the town does it right the can get much of it paid for with Grant money.

How can it better our community? Is that a real question? Do you know how many kids are in town? Do you know how how hard it is scheduling soccor, softball, baseball, lacrosse and football for all these kids? Please do not say you didnt have all that when you were a kid. TIMES CHANGE.

EXTRA park? How is it extra? Next time we have one our annual floods go look at the main fields that little league used but remember to bring a boat. Each year we put THOUSANDS of dollars back into it to make it playable again. TAKE THAT MONEY AND RELOCATE THE FIELDS.

More parking spaces near Main Street? There is plenty of parking for people who are in a little better shape. (Footbridge, Community Center and if not flooded make Alpine/Sunoco fields into parking) I dont have an answer for closer to Main Street. Besides this question and field question are 2 different topics. Parking should not be discussed in same breathe as better programs for the kids.

Cut operating expenses? Like what? I said it before times change, population increases, nobody can stop it. With that expenses go up. Are there a few places in the budget that the town could save, I would think so, but nothing that is going to make a dramatic change for people. If I was you I would be asking what is going to happen when Yards Creek money stops coming in. Blairstown is going to get nailed with a 15-20 cent increase per 100 dollars all in one year when that happens. The committee should be slowly starting a local tax to ease Btown into it.
